A. Stetson University has a residency requirement which states that all students must live in residential facilities unless they meet one or more of the following requirements:
- The student has earned ninety (90) academic hours (Senior status) by August 1.
- The student is married.
- The student resides with immediate family and commutes to class (members of family for this purpose are defined as parent(s), guardian, grandparent(s), or bother/sister, not enrolled at Stetson University (notarized proof will be requested)); or
- The student has reached the age of twenty-one (22) by Aug 1.
A. Once a student deposit's with the University a portion of that deposit will include the housing deposit. All students will need to complete a Housing Agreement. Only first year students (New and Transfers) will need to complete the Housing Questionnaire Form and Meningitis Form. They can obtain these forms on-line by, clicking here or by calling the Department of Residential Life at 386-822-7201. Once the student completes the forms they will be placed in order of deposit date to the University. All students will be assigned in that order.
Most new students who apply between Jan- June will be notified in the mid-July by our department. They can also check their Banner Web account to view their assignment and roommate information. Students who apply late in summer will be assigned when space becomes available and should continue to check the Banner Web Account.
Yes. There may be changes to a student housing assignment in the summer months so that we can accommodate the demand for housing and clarify freshman spaces. We work hard to try to limit any late changes in order to allow students to meet and prepare for the fall. Changes my also occur for reasons that include consolidation of spaces, gender room/suite switches, cancellations and/or special needs placement. For more information about the room change process click here.
When a student applies to housing and completes a Housing Agreement, the forms will ask some basic questions about their lifestyle. Included on this form are questions pertaining to which building the student would like to be assigned to. Completing this part of the form does not guarantee they will be assigned to one of their preferences. In most cases, students will be assigned upon one of their top three choices. Agreement and preference forms that come in after the assignment process starts (mid-May) risk getting any of their choices. To fill out this form, please go to the On Line Forms page.
The assignment process matches up students in accordance to gender, smoking habits, major, hobbies and other requested information. Many aspects play into the assignment process such as: date of deposit, class standing, and availability of space.

Students who want to room together must apply at the same time and indicated each other on their preference form. If only one student requests another, they will not be matched together for concerns of safety. It is very important to apply at the same time and indicate that they wish to room together. Students cannot apply and ask to hold a space for the incoming roommate. Late roommate requests after the assignment process has started will not be honored.
After a student is assigned to housing during the summer months room changes will not be allowed. The reason behind this is because throughout the entire summer our department is constantly consolidating spaces to allow for the most occupancy upon the demand. Students will have a chance the second week of the semester to participate in the Room Change Process. After the second week of the semester any student who has not returned and officially checked into their space will be removed from that space. On Room Change Day all open spaces will be available for students who would like to make changes.
All students will sign an agreement with their roommate the first day they move into the residence halls. All students will need to abide by their signed agreement. Students who do not abide by the agreement will be scheduled to speak with the Resident Director/Assistant Director of the building. Since the demand for housing is high, just moving a student out of a room is not always possible. All students need to work with their roommate and come to a "middle ground" in order to co-exist in the room and achieve their goals.
Single rooms are very limited. Single rooms are for upperclassmen only. Most single rooms are taken during the lottery process for returning students in March.
Depending on the building all rooms have a bed, desk, desk chair, dresser, closet or wardrobe, and sometimes a night stand. Most rooms are carpeted with window blinds/shades. Internet portals for each student, one cable television connection and a telephone line connection. For more information about what to bring see the: "What to Bring" link on the left of this page.
The majority of all the mattresses on campus range average 80" in length. We recommend that you purchase extra long flat sheets for your mattress. These sheets can be found in any department store.
Each student assigned to a residence hall will be issued Unit # as their mailing address. Mailing instructions are as follows;
Individual's Name Stetson University, Unit # XXXX 421 N. Woodland Blvd. DeLand, FL 32723

Many exciting events are scheduled for opening day. When the student comes to check into their room the will report directly to the residential building they are assigned to. Look for the central check in area and meet the staff. All students will sign for their Connections Handbook and room keys. After that the student will meet with an RA (Resident Assistant) and he/she will go over the Room Inventory Form. It is important that the student review this form before signing it. If the student feels that some items in the room are not correctly indicated on the Room Inventory Form they can have those items changed at that that meeting. After 24 hours all Room Inventory Forms are final. Be sure to obtain your receipt of the form after you sign it.
When a student checks out of the room at the end of the semester, withdraws from the University, is suspended or dismissed, or does a room change they are responsible to make an appointment no later 48 hours with the RA or RD/FC/SC of the building to be officially checked out. The staff member will inspect the room and complete the Room Inventory Form. The student must sign the form and return their keys by signing them back to the student staff member Failure to check out properly will result in an improper check out fee and lock change for the room, billed to the students account.
