Stetson University is a private university. Founded in 1883, it is Florida's first private university. Stetson University has four colleges and schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business Administration and the School of Music on the residential campus in DeLand, and the College of Law in Gulfport and Tampa.
No. Stetson University is a private and independent university with no religious affiliation. The university had historic ties to the Florida Baptist Convention and formally ended that affiliation in 1995. Today Stetson University welcomes students of every faith tradition and those with none.
Most undergraduate students on the DeLand campus live on campus for their first three years under Stetson University's residency requirement, which also applies to transfer and international students. You can request an exemption if you meet specific criteria, such as commuting from a family member's home. After three years, you can choose to stay on campus or move off campus.

The Stetson University campus sits just north of downtown DeLand, a past winner of the Great American Main Street Award, so you can walk to locally owned restaurants, coffee shops, live music and shows at the historic Athens Theatre.
