Finance Department
The Department of Finance is dedicated to mentoring students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration in either Finance or Economics, providing them with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in today’s competitive business environment. Finance majors concentrate on areas such as business finance, investments, and corporate financial management, preparing them for careers in the financial industry or entrepreneurship. Economics majors, on the other hand, gain a comprehensive understanding of both microeconomics and macroeconomics, with a strong emphasis on financial systems and relationships. Across both programs, the department highlights real-world, experiential learning through specialized programs that bridge academic theory with practical application.
Our faculty takes pride in a mentoring approach to education. We work with our students as advisors, teachers and career counselors. Finance faculty members have published research in professional journals for economics, finance and quantitative methods, and several are on editorial boards. Many have taught classes abroad including in Austria, China, Italy, New Zealand and Poland.

Internships
Students have internship opportunities with brokerage and asset management firms, as well as in financial analysis. Some of the places Stetson students have interned include Brown and Brown, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, KCM Asset Management, ZPR Asset Management and AAA.
To receive academic credit for an internship, students must meet the eligibility requirement from enrollment in FINA 397. These requirements, as well as the instructions and relevant forms, are included in the internship packet. The internship director meets with all students proposing internships.

Roland George Investments Program
Students in Stetson University's pioneering Roland George Investments Program manage a real portfolio made up of $4 million in stocks and bonds by developing their own investment goals, objectives and criteria. They function as an investment management firm would, where a complete investment policy is established and revised as needed. Individual security selections are researched using fundamental tools such as Bloomberg.
The students must defend their recommendations to the other students and an investments committee, dominated by students that function much as the senior strategy group of an investment management firm. Their goal is to earn a return that funds the acquisition of special systems and software for the program, as well as to meet operating expenses.
Scholarships
Finance majors may be eligible for scholarships from a variety of sources in addition to the financial aid offered through the university. Each year, the Business School Foundation awards the Eugene M. Lynn Merit Award for Finance to one outstanding Department of Finance student.
