April 13, 2026
Stetson University has appointed Timothy Eng, PhD, to a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Counselor Education following a competitive national search. His new appointment begins in August 2026.
Eng has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the department for the past two years, where he has contributed to teaching, research, and student mentorship. His transition into a tenure-track role reflects both his impact on the department and counseling profession, as well as the department’s commitment to strengthening faculty continuity and academic excellence.
Eng earned his doctorate from the University of Central Florida and has worked with a wide range of clients across residential, outpatient, substance use, community mental health and university settings. His research focuses on service learning in counselor education, multicultural issues, educational access and opportunity for BIPOC students, and the imposter phenomenon among faculty and counselors-in-training.
In 2024, Eng was selected for a Fulbright Specialist Award, which took him to Slovakia to present on wellness and support the development of a university-based counseling center at Trnavsk Univerzita v Trnave, home to the country’s first counseling program. His work abroad reflects a commitment to expanding access to counselor education and counseling services in emerging global contexts.
He will continue that international engagement this summer as a recipient of Stetson’s World Outreach, Research, Learning, and Development (WORLD) Class Travel Award. Through the program, Eng will participate in an International Faculty Development Seminar in Quito, Ecuador, designed to prepare faculty to develop and lead study abroad experiences.
Eng’s appointment marks an important step forward as the department continues to strengthen its programs, expand opportunities for students, and advance its mission in counselor education.
