Counselor Community Engagement

At Stetson’s Department of Counselor Education, community engagement is woven into the fabric of who we are. Our students, faculty, alumni, and community partners work collaboratively to expand access to care, strengthen communities, and prepare counselors who are deeply connected to the people and communities they serve.

Through clinical partnerships, community-based training initiatives, advocacy efforts, wellness programming, and public-facing educational events, our department seeks to bridge classroom learning with meaningful community impact.

Hatters Behavioral Health Coalition

The Hatters Behavioral Health Coalition (HBHC) is a federally funded training initiative supported through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The program prepares counseling students for work in integrated behavioral health settings through interdisciplinary clinical training, community partnerships, and experiential learning opportunities.

Clinicians in the Community

Faculty bring real-world practice into the classroom. Several faculty remain actively engaged in clinical work, licensure supervision, and community leadership outside the university. Their ongoing clinical practice strengthens the connection between counselor training and the realities of professional counseling work. Students benefit from learning alongside counselor educators who continue to work directly with clients and communities. The integration of teaching, practice, and scholarship helps bridge theory and real-world clinical application.
