Fall 2026: August 14, 2026 - DeLand Campus - 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. - Location TBA
Each year, our Annual Student Meeting is held in August before the beginning of the Fall semester. Here, we share essential program updates and required information for the new academic year.
We will start our meeting together as colleagues, faculty, and staff, and end with breakout sessions of:
- First-Year Student Orientation
- Practicum and Internship Orientation
- To the Finish Line and Beyond: Portfolios, Applying for Jobs, License Registration
We strongly encourage all to attend every year, as you will be held responsible for any and all program information shared. Moreover, all students are required to attend at least one annual student meeting as a part of their degree requirements for graduation.
Annually in Spring
Upon a student's completion of 18 hours of coursework, they become eligible to advance to candidacy. Faculty make advancement decisions based on the rubric criteria. Upon advancement, the Department notifies students by letter when they advance to candidacy. Failure to meet the rubric criteria at a score of three (3) or higher results in remediation of the student or dismissal from the program.
Fall 2026: August 14, 2026, 2:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. during the Annual Student Meeting
This orientation session will help students learn what to expect during their internship and provide tools and tips to maximize their experience. All students are required to attend at least one practicum orientation as part of their graduation degree requirements. Students are required to attend at least one Pre-Practicum Orientation before starting practicum and are encouraged to attend multiple in the year leading up to their practicum semester. Pre-Practicum Orientation is hosted each Fall and Spring semester; an orientation is not held during the summer semester. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Dr. Brooke Bugni: [email protected].
CPCE testing takes place during Practicum semesters.
Testing will take place via Pearson. There is a $150.00 fee for testing due at the time of registration.

The Department of Counselor Education is currently recruiting students for the next Hatters Behavioral Health Coalition (HBHC) cohort. Students selected for the HBHC Program will complete their Practicum and Internship at an approved training site that offers experiential learning in integrated behavioral health. Students will also participate in HBHC training activities designed to prepare them for work in interdisciplinary behavioral health settings. These training activities count as indirect hours.
For the 2026-2027 recruitment cycle, the program will offer 11-12 training spots for students who will begin Practicum in Fall 2026, Spring 2027, or Summer 2027. Selected students will receive a $25,000 stipend for the training year.
Students who are not yet eligible for the 2026-2027 cycle should note that additional training spots are expected for the 2027-2028 and 2028-2029 training years. Openings for students beginning Practicum after Summer 2029 are dependent on future funding.
For more information on the HBHC and to apply, see our Scholarships and Grants page.
