Stetson Counselor Education students recently participated in a 4-day Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) externship hosted by the University of South Florida and EFT Tampa Bay. The intensive externship, led by International Centre for Excellence in EFT-certified trainer James Hawkins, PhD, included live therapy demonstrations, clinical case discussions, and hands-on skills training. Two Stetson alumni (Manon Stonecypher ('24) and Elendea DeGaetano ('24) and four current students (Tom Clark, Caroline Hogan, Gladys Alvarez, and Zuri Rodriguez) attended the Externship, with Rodriguez going on to complete EFT Core Skills 1&2 in August and Core Skills 3&4 in October, marking a notable accomplishment in her professional development and progress toward future EFT certification.

Visiting Assistant Professor Sarah Brow Corrigan, MS, LMFT, assisted with the training, providing guidance and support to externship participants. Brow Corrigan earned her master’s degree in Marriage, Couple and Family Counseling from Stetson University and is a licensed marriage and family therapist in Florida. She is the founder of Embodi Counseling Collective, a group private practice serving the DeLand community, and focuses her work on repairing attachment bonds and strengthening connection in couples and relationships. Her involvement in the training helps prepare Stetson students for advanced clinical practice in couples and family counseling.
