Graduate Education Admission Requirements

Stetson University offers three graduate education degrees and one graduate certificate through the College of Arts and Sciences. Every applicant completes the same six application steps, and each program sets its own additional eligibility requirements. Confirm your program's requirements below, then work through the steps on this page.

Admission Requirements

Start with the application for admission, which opens your Hatter Portal so you can upload supporting materials on your own schedule. Review begins after you complete every step below. If you attended a college or university outside the United States, or if you will need a student visa, apply 30 days before the deadline for the semester you plan to start.

Curriculum and Instruction (EdS) Application Deadlines

The graduate Curriculum and Instruction program starts each Spring semester and its application deadline is November 15.

Educational Leadership (MEd) and Modified Educational Leadership (Certificate) Application Deadlines

The graduate Educational Leadership and Modified Educational Leadership programs start each Fall and Spring semester. The Fall semester application deadline is July 1 and the Spring semester application deadline is November 15.

Exceptional Student Education (MEd) Application Deadlines

The graduate Exceptional Student Education programs start each Summer semester and its application deadline is April 1.

Submit the graduate application for admission to Stetson University. One application covers all graduate education programs, and you select your program within the form.

A $50 nonrefundable application fee is due when you submit your application. Pay online through the Hatter Portal.

Pay Application Fee

You must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university. Submit official transcripts from every college and university you have attended.

Order transcripts through Parchment or eScrip for electronic delivery to Stetson University, or mail them to the Office of Graduate Admissions, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., Unit 8289, DeLand, FL 32723.

Reference requirements vary by program.

Curriculum and Instruction (EdS)

Provide the name and contact information for three professional references in your application. Supervisors, managers and colleagues who can speak to your work are all appropriate, and Stetson University contacts them directly. If you graduated recently and do not have professional references, academic references are acceptable.

Educational Leadership (MEd)

Submit three letters of recommendation from professional references. If you work in a K-12 school, one letter must come from your principal. If you work at the district level, one letter must come from your supervisor.

Exceptional Student Education (MEd)

Provide the name and contact information for three professional references in your application. Supervisors, managers and colleagues who can speak to your work are all appropriate, and Stetson University contacts them directly. If you graduated recently and do not have professional references, academic references are acceptable.

Submit a resume covering your professional and educational history.

Submit a personal statement of 500 to 800 words explaining what your career goals are, why you're pursuing the program and why you want to attend Stetson University.

Additional Requirements

Each graduate education program sets its own requirements in addition to the six steps above. Confirm you meet your program's requirements before you apply. If you attended a college or university outside the United States, or if you will need a student visa, review the international applicant requirements as well.

Applicants must hold a master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university with a minimum grade point average of 3.0.

Submit a copy of your professional teaching certificate and your annual performance evaluations from at least the two most recent years. You also need a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, calculated either across your full undergraduate record or across your upper-division coursework.

You need a bachelor's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university and evidence of academic readiness through any one of the following:

  • An undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • An upper-division grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • A grade point average of 3.0 or higher across your last 60 college credits
  • At least 12 credits of post-baccalaureate coursework at the 300 level or above with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher
  • A Graduate Record Examination (GRE) or Miller Analogies Test (MAT) score at or above the 50th percentile

You have additional requirements, including credential evaluation and English proficiency testing, if you will need a student visa or if you attended a college or university outside the United States. Applications for admission are due 30 days before the deadlines listed above.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) and the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) are not required for admission to any graduate education program at Stetson University. Applicants to the Master of Education (MEd) in Exceptional Student Education may submit a GRE or MAT score at or above the 50th percentile as one of five ways to demonstrate academic readiness.

Yes, Stetson University accepts financial aid for graduate students who qualify. As a student of Stetson University's College of Arts and Sciences, you can receive a 40% tuition scholarship if you are a enrolled in a graduate education program.
