Graduate Creative Writing Admission Requirements
Stetson University offers the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing through the College of Arts and Sciences. The program is low-residency, built around two nine-day residencies each year with one-on-one faculty mentorship in between, so you can keep working while you earn the degree. Start with the application for admission, which opens your Hatter Portal so you can upload supporting materials on your own schedule. Review begins after you complete every step below.
Application Deadlines
The Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing starts each Summer and Winter term. The Summer term application deadline is April 1 and the Winter term application deadline is October 15. If you are admitted, your enrollment deposit is due two weeks after the application deadline. If you attended a college or university outside the United States, or if you will need a student visa, apply 30 days before the deadline for the term you plan to start.

Submit the graduate application for admission to Stetson University.
A $50 nonrefundable application fee is due when you submit your application.
You must hold a bachelor's or master's degree from an institutionally accredited college or university. Submit official transcripts from every college and university you have attended.
Order transcripts through Parchment or eScrip for electronic delivery to Stetson University, or mail them to the Office of Graduate Admissions, 421 N. Woodland Blvd., Unit 8289, DeLand, FL 32723.
Provide the name and contact information for two references in your application. Professors, workshop leaders, editors and others who can speak to your writing are all appropriate. They will be sent a form to fill out and submit that gets uploaded into your application.
Work sample requirements vary by track. Submit the sample for the track you select in your application.
Poetry in the Expanded Field
Submit five to eight work samples. Samples may be text, image, sound, video or any combination of these.
Prose
Submit one to four work samples totaling 15 to 20 pages, with a 20-page maximum for the entire submission. One short story, or one novel excerpt with two flash fiction pieces, would each meet the requirement. Double-space all prose samples.
Exploratory Path
Submit four to eight work samples combining genres and forms.
Submit a personal statement of 500 to 800 words explaining what your career goals are, why you're pursuing the program and why you want to attend Stetson University.
Additional Requirements
These requirements apply if you attended a college or university outside the United States, or if you will need a student visa. Everyone else is finished after step six.

No. The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission to the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Stetson University. Admission is based on your work sample, references and academic record.
