Stetson University Students

Register for the course MUSE 305: Choral Union for course credit under the current course and credit value. Attendance and punctuality, music purchase, concert attire, preparation, etc., are carried out by the student for a grade. The grade is assigned at the semester's end as in the case of any other course. One need not be a music major to get the university credit. The credit should count toward Stetson University core requirements under the "A" designation (creative arts in the general education designation) for non-music majors. For music majors, the Choral Union counts as a major ensemble credit toward degree requirements, scholarship requirements or both. Refer to the syllabus for all course requirements and grading policies.

Members of the Community

Participation in the Choral Union is open to any community member at or above the age of 14.

No audition is required, but community members must register and sign a participation waiver form (link below). Also, as a courtesy, we request that you email the Choral Union conductor Sandra Peter before joining. This will give her an opportunity to answer any questions you may have and ensure that we are prepared for rehearsal with scores and seating.

The requirements for maintaining membership in the Choral Union include interest and experience in singing, attendance at rehearsals and performances in concerts, purchase of required printed music, payment of dues and procuring the necessary attire for performance. Singers may join the Choral Union at the beginning of each semester (fall, spring), but not mid-semester because of missed rehearsals.

Dues

Dues for community members are $25 per semester.

Stetson faculty and staff (current and emeriti) are exempt from paying dues.

Students registered for MUSE 305: Choral Union do not pay community dues.

Scores

1. Every singer must have original, published copies for all rehearsals and performances.

2. Stetson will purchase the scores and distribute them at the first rehearsal.

All singers must purchase these scores and then may keep them after the performance. Costs will range from $10-25. Payments are to be made online; community members pay as a part of the registration form process (link below).

Registered students may pay for scores online.

Score Markings and Rehearsal Recordings

Score markings will be given to you at rehearsal. Links to reference recordings will be sent via email.
