Academic Regalia

All participating students are required to wear their cap and gown during the Commencement ceremony. Regalia must be worn as intended with gowns fully zipped throughout the procession, ceremony, and recession. In addition to regalia, comfortable attire and sensible shoes are recommended.

Students are welcome to decorate their caps to celebrate their achievements and highlight their individuality. Decorated caps must align with the Student Conduct and Community Standards and should reflect the professionalism and significance of the occasion. Any caps deemed to be inappropriate will not be permitted to be worn.

Students in need of ordering regalia can do so on the Stetson University Bookstore website.

Please call the Stetson University Bookstore at (386) 822-7160 with any questions about ordering regalia.

Master's Regalia

Master's gowns have oblong sleeves open at the wrists. Gowns consist of a black gown, a black cap, a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion and a hood. Hoods are lined in silk with the official color of the degree you are receiving.

In order to maintain the necessary physical distance between participants, graduates will be asked to arrive at graduate check-in wearing their hood. There will be no formal 'hooding' during the ceremony.

Bachelor's Regalia

Bachelors' gowns have long-pointed sleeves. Bachelors' regalia consists of a dark green gown, a dark green cap and a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion.

Honor Cords

Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 are presented with university honor cords of green and white. The honor cords will be distributed at the Sanborn Activity Center prior to each Commencement ceremony. Graduates who are unable to attend in-person may submit a request to have their honor cord mailed to their home. Requests should be sent to [email protected] and must include first name, last name, student ID, and mailing address.

Academic Accessories

Students will receive these accessories directly from the faculty sponsor of their organization. Additional groups outside of the official honor societies will need to submit a formal request to the Office of the Provost for approval at [email protected]. Requests should include a description of the academic honorary society, including membership requirements and an image of the requested accessory. All requests are due by April 1, 2021, and will be reviewed after that date, with final decisions communicated to the requester. Current policy states that requests for academic accessories (cords, pins and medallions) will be considered from academic honor societies only. Requests from non-academic groups for an academic accessory will not be approved.

Requests for Academic Accessories will only be accepted through April 1, 2021.

Non-Academic Accessories

Students are permitted to wear additional non-academic accessories (pins and stoles) that are officially sanctioned by the university. Students will receive these accessories directly from the appropriate sponsor of the association, organization, club, or group. Societies, clubs, and groups seeking approval for a non-academic accessory will need to submit a formal request to the Vice President for Campus Life and Student Success. Final approval will be made jointly by the senior officers for CLaSS and Academic Affairs. Requests should include a description of the association, organization, club, or group, including any membership requirements, a statement expressing how membership or participation in the group matches the official mission and/or stated values of Stetson University, and an image of the requested accessory. All requests are due by April 1, 2021, and will be reviewed after that date, with final decisions communicated to the requester. Requests from organizations, clubs, and groups whose primary purpose is social, or whose work is not connected with the mission and/or values of the university, will not be approved.

Requests for Non-Academic Accessories will only be accepted through April 1, 2021.
