All graduating students are required to wear their caps and gowns during the main Commencement ceremony.
Regalia is currently at the University Bookstore and available for pickup between the hours of 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Monday-Friday. Due to the large inventory, all regalia not picked up prior to Friday, May 29, will be packed for storage and unavailable until the first week of December.
Please contact the Office of University Events (email@example.com), by Friday, May 29, if you wish to:
- Request regalia be shipped home for an additional charge of $7.50. Please provide full name and address.
- Request regalia be returned for a full refund. Refunds will be issued by Oak Hall, but for now we are unable to determine the date those refunds will be sent.
Regalia originally shipped directly to students may be returned unopened to Oak Hall for a full refund if students determine they are unable to participate in the ceremony. Freight charges will not be refunded.
Students will have the opportunity to order regalia via the University Bookstore website throughout the Fall 2020 semester. All regalia orders will be available for pick up the week of commencement ceremonies beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at the Rinker Welcome Center.
Master's and Bachelor's candidate regalia can be purchased through the University Bookstore or their website. Also available through the Stetson Bookstore are Stetson Diploma Frames.
Stetson University proudly uses GreenWeaver recycled gowns from Oak Hall. The gowns are made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles. Graduates will have an opportunity to recycle their gowns after the ceremony at the college and school receptions.
Masters' gowns have oblong sleeves open at the wrists. Gowns consist of a black gown, a black cap, a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion and a hood. Hoods are lined in silk with the official color of the degree you are receiving.
Bachelors' gowns have long-pointed sleeves. Bachelors' regalia consists of a dark green gown, a dark green cap and a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion.
Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 are presented with university honor cords of green and white. The honor cords will be distributed at the Hollis Center, Rinker Fieldhouse one hour prior to the Commencement ceremonies. Staff from the Office of the Registrar will be available at this time to answer questions.
Students are permitted to wear additional academic accessories (cords, pins, stoles, and medallions) from officially-sanctioned Stetson University honor societies only. Students will receive these accessories directly from the faculty sponsor of their organization. Additional groups outside of the official honor societies will need to submit a formal request to the Office of the Provost for approval at firstname.lastname@example.org. Requests should include a description of the academic honorary society, including membership requirements, and an image of the requested accessory. All requests are due by May 1, 2020, and will be reviewed after that date, with final decisions communicated to the requester. Current policy states that requests for academic accessories (cords, pins, and medallions) will be considered from academic honor societies only. Requests from non-academic groups for an academic accessory will not be approved.
Students are permitted to wear additional non-academic accessories (pins and stoles) that are officially-sanctioned by the university. Students will receive these accessories directly from the appropriate sponsor of the association, organization, club, or group. Societies, clubs, and groups seeking approval for a non-academic accessory will need to submit a formal request to the Vice President for Campus Life and Student Success. Final approval will be made jointly by the senior officers for CLaSS and Academic Affairs. Requests should include a description of the association, organization, club, or group, including any membership requirements, a statement expressing how membership or participation in the group matches the official mission and/or stated values of Stetson University, and an image of the requested accessory. All requests are due by May 1, 2020, and will be reviewed after that date, with final decisions communicated to the requester. Requests from organizations, clubs, and groups whose primary purpose is social, or whose work is not connected with the mission and/or values of the university, will not be approved.
Faculty participating in Commencement-related activities are asked to wear academic regalia. Faculty members in need of rental regalia can place an order at the Stetson Bookstore.
