Academic Success, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Action Statement

Academic Success commits to an inclusive environment for all members of Stetson’s campus. We will intentionally and strategically dismantle systems and processes that may create barriers to inclusion. We strive to create a space where students, faculty, staff, and guests will not be pressured to change their identity to fit a Stetson mold, but all students and their many overlapping identities have the opportunity to thrive and experience all the good that Stetson has to offer. We acknowledge that discrimination exists and is often unconsciously built into the systems that surround our experiences in everyday life. We commit to examining inequity in our services, breaking it down, and rebuilding those services from a universal design lens where more people not only have the chance but the tools, knowledge, and opportunity to succeed. We will do this by

  • Recognizing and celebrating students' diverse backgrounds and intersecting identities
  • Helping students craft their Stetson story which reflects their authentic and developing identity
  • Regularly analyzing our data, policies, and processes to identify any gaps or barriers that may contribute to inequity
  • Mandating professional and student staff training in inclusive practices and behaviors
  • Encouraging individual reflection and awareness of personal biases in our professional and student staff
  • Inspiring and modeling an environment of active listening, learning and growth
