Medical and Health Humanities
The Medical and Health Humanities minor explores health and medicine through the arts, philosophy, history, and literature to prepare you for careers in health professions. You’ll examine what it means to treat, heal, and care for people by engaging with ethical, cultural, and humanistic perspectives on illness and medical care.
Why Medical and Health Humanities at Stetson University?
Through small classes, interdisciplinary approaches, and hands-on opportunities like internships and study abroad, this minor equips you with critical thinking and empathy to navigate complex health challenges across diverse fields such as medicine, nursing, public health, and more. Our faculty will connect you with a variety of opportunities and programs, including studying health and illness abroad in cross-cultural and global contexts, working as an intern for Advent Health or a health-focused community partner, and exploring the role of creative practices in health and medicine.
Our partnership with the Pre-Health program at Stetson means that you can prepare for your career by pursuing internships in Volusia County as you complete your coursework. Faculty in MEDH also offer study abroad opportunities, like “Madness in Venice” which studied the history of “madness” and mental illness from perspectives in philosophy and psychology, including a spring break trip to Venice.
