Stetson School of Music Carnegie Hall Chamber Music and Solo Competition

The Stetson University School of Music is pleased to announce the Annual Stetson in New York Chamber Music and Solo Competition.  Winners of the competition will perform in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall on Friday, March 1, 2024. Student chamber ensembles and soloists have the opportunity to compete for placement in the concert. The competition will take place on October 1, 2023, at Stetson University and will be judged by a panel of outside judges.

The Stetson University School of Music is pleased to announce the Second Annual Chamber Music and Solo Competition Winners performance. Undergraduate performers, soloists, and chamber music ensembles take the stage.

Competition Guidelines/Requirements

Soloists

  • Eligibility: The solo portion of the “Stetson Carnegie Hall Chamber Music and Solo Competition” is open to all students enrolled in both private lessons and large ensembles at Stetson University.   Permission from each applicant’s studio teacher will be required upon registration.

  • Previous Winners: Past winners of the solo division in the Carnegie Hall Concert are ineligible to compete in the solo portion again. 

  • Availability: Applicants must be available on October 1 and February 29-March 3 to compete.

  • Repertoire Selection: Repertoire includes unaccompanied works as well as works with piano accompaniment.  Concerti movements will not be accepted.  Works that feature an orchestral reduction must be approved in writing by both the competition coordinator and the studio teacher of the applicant.  

  • Duration: The duration of the selection should not exceed 12 minutes.

  • Scores: Students must provide three copies of the full score for the judges at the time of the competition. 

  • Memorization: required, except for works written on or after 1945.

Chamber Ensembles

  • Eligibility: The chamber music portion of the “Stetson Carnegie Hall Chamber Music and Solo Competition” is open to all Chamber Ensembles enrolled in MUSE 331 for both semesters of the 202-2024 academic year.  Permission from each ensemble’s coach will be required upon registration.

  • Previous Winners: Past winning ensembles of the chamber music division of the Carnegie Hall Competition are ineligible to compete again unless one or more members are new to the group. 

  • Availability: Applicants must be available on October 1 and February 29-March 3 to compete.

  • Repertoire Selection: Repertoire includes any works written for the ensemble enrolled in MUSE 331.

  • Duration: The duration of the selection should not exceed 12 minutes.

  • Scores: Students must provide three copies of the full score for the judges at the time of the competition. 

  • Memorization: not required.
