Experiential Learning Requirement FAQ

No. The Experiential Learning Requirement only applies to students who began in the Fall 2017 semester or later. Students who began earlier than Fall 2017 and have changed their Catalog Year to 2017-2018 will be granted a waiver for the 2 ELR credits that show on Degree Audit. However, we strongly encourage these students to complete internships and other significant career-building activities.

Yes. Students should plan to complete the ELR along with all other graduation requirements. Consult with the ELR Office early to make a roadmap for success.

Transfer students who began at Stetson in Fall 2017 or later and transferred 45+ credits are required to complete only 1 ELR credit. Transfer students who began at Stetson in Fall 2017 or later and transferred fewer than 45 credits are required to complete 2 ELR credits. ELR credit will not be awarded for experiences completed prior to beginning at Stetson University.

Maybe. Select on-campus student worker positions qualify for ELR as do academic internships. Please review the ELR Guidelines Info Sheet and consult with the ELR Office if you have questions about your part-time job and the ELR.

No. The nature of the ELR is to take what you have learned in the classroom and put it into practice in the real world. Work done for any course may be considered excellent preparation for internships and other experiences, but will not satisfy an ELR credit.

Yes. Credit will be awarded for internships (taken for academic credit) and for completion of the Certificate of Community Engagement – both of which are already Bonner requirements.
