Major: Entrepreneurship and Management
Class of 2023
Hometown: Gilbert, Arizona
My dad, Gordon, was a chef, so growing up I spent A LOT of time in the kitchen. I love to cook. The only downside is stripping the leaves off the herbs. This is especially annoying when making pesto or cooking with cilantro. If you have ever used cilantro, you know it is a tedious task to individually separate the leaves from the stems. That's why I invented the Herbie Rake.
Herbie Rake is a kitchen tool that strips leaves from the stems of many types of herbs and spices. It makes cooking fun and efficient. Simply pull the rake through the cilantro and watch the leaves come off.
Recently, healthy eating has become more popular in the United States which is why we now have access to more than 450 cooking shows on TV. This means more families are cooking at home like I did growing up. In fact, 4 out of 5 Americans now regularly prepare home cooked meals.
As a comparison, cooking is like golf. When you golf, you want all the golf gadgets possible. Similarly, cooking enthusiast want all the kitchen gadgets possible, such as Herbie Rake.
I have already filed a provisional patent status for this product, and I am very excited to move forward. My next step is to launch a kick-starter campaign and begin working with a company to manufacture Herbie Rake. Help me get Herbie Rake in the hands of cooks around the nation.
