Equity and Inclusion Training

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion offers a brave space to engage in community conversations that explore tough subjects around identity, belonging, diversity, and equity. Here, students, staff, and faculty can ask questions, raise concerns, and learn from each other’s lived experiences. Each semester, ODI will offer  facilitation/training opportunities, which are open to the Hatter community. Each session will be approximately a 90-minute program and cover a variety of topics, which ODI determines to be most relevant to the needs of the community and contribute to the efforts of building inclusion and belonging.

Some of the facilitation/training include but are not limited to:

  • Diversity + Inclusion 101: “I am inclusive.” While that is a great statement, how do we qualify that? Better yet, what practices are we doing that demonstrates our inclusivity? During this engaging session, we will define and explore critical terms in order to develop a common understanding. Participants will also learn how various concepts show up in and around us daily. Finally, participants will explore strategies designed to promote inclusivity in the classroom, workspace, and beyond. Let’s create a better world TOGETHER!
  • Safe Zone Training: This engaging session is designed to increase the awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) culture and topics surrounding LGBTQ+ issues, as we strive to foster learning environments that are more inclusive and equitable for all. Participants will explore tools that will create a safer environment for LGBTQ+ individuals on campus and increase comfort in discussing LGBTQ+ issues in the classroom, workplace, and beyond. The goal of this session is not to ensure perfection, but to equip us with effective strategies as we continue to learn and grow in our increasingly diverse world.
