The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness provides decision-making and planning support through the collection, storage, analysis and presentation of research data about Stetson University.

Colin Hilton-MacFarlane

Assistant Vice President

Hilton-MacFarlane joined the Hatter community in 2012, and has served in multiple roles throughout the university prior to assuming the leadership of Institutional Research and Effectiveness in 2021. His areas of expertise include business process enhancement, quantitative analysis, data management and assessment. He earned his Master of Education in Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics and Assessment at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 2014.

Personally, Hilton-MacFarlane is the 2018 DeLand Bacon & Brew Fest Bacon Eating Contest champion and enjoys cooking, baking, bar trivia and cricket. He lives with his husband, two cats, leopard tortoise, and four chickens in Orlando.

Jamie Bataille Head Shot

Data Analyst

A long-time veteran of Stetson University, Bataille served 17 years in the Hatters' Athletic Communications department before moving to Institutional Research and Effectiveness in 2022.  He is primarily responsible for the University's external reporting data, including US News and World Report, College Board and Princeton Review surveys.  He also assists with campus censuses and student course evaluations. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and Communication from DePaul in 1997 and his Master of Science in Statistics from Memphis in 1999. 

In his free time, Bataille enjoys outdoor activities including paddleboarding and playing pickleball. He and his wife, Vanessa, live in DeLand with dog Jasper and cats Sandy and K.C.

Data Analyst

As a Data Analyst with a focus on Student Life and Student Success, Hughes is the primary liaison between IRE and student experience and community-centric departments. Throughout the year, Hughes provides support for processes such as roster verification, priority registration and new Hatter arrival.

Hughes is a Stetson Alumna, having graduated in 2017 as an International Business major. After graduation, Hughes lived and worked in Korea for two years. She then earned her MBA with a concentration in Data Analytics in 2022. In her free time, Hughes likes to read, make crystal jewelry, crochet, play video games and read tarot.

Data Analyst

As the Data Analyst for Academic Operations, Vanderlip is the primary liaison between Admissions and Registrar as well as the Library, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, and School of Music. Her primary system responsibilities include Degree Audit and Dynamic Forms to support Stetson’s DeLand campus. She assists during the year with processes related to academic operations and improving processes related to her areas of responsibility.

Vanderlip earned her Master of Non-Profit Management Degree in 2008 from UCF. She spent the first 10 years of her employment at Stetson working in Enrollment Management primarily with special populations before moving into this role. When not at work, Vanderlip loves to spend time with her family, attend Broadway shows and enjoy new restaurants.
