All graduating students are required to wear their caps and gowns during the main Commencement ceremony.
Master's and Bachelor's candidate regalia can be purchased by contacting the Stetson Bookstore
Stetson University proudly uses GreenWeaver recycled gowns from Oak Hall. The gowns are made from 100 percent post-consumer plastic bottles. Graduates will have an opportunity to recycle their gowns after the ceremony at the college and school receptions.
Masters' gowns have oblong sleeves open at the wrists. Gowns may be worn either open or closed and consist of a black gown, a black cap, a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion and a hood. Hoods are lined in silk with the official color of the degree you are receiving.
Bachelors' gowns have closed fronts and long-pointed sleeves. Bachelors' regalia consists of a dark green gown, a dark green cap and a tassel with a custom Stetson University medallion.
Honor Cords and Academic Accessories
Students who have earned a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 are presented with university honor cords of green and white. The honor cords will be distributed at the Sanborn Activity Center one hour prior to the Commencement ceremony. Staff from the Office of the Registrar will be available at this time to answer questions.
Students are permitted to wear additional academic accessories (cords, pins, stoles, medallions) from officially-sanctioned Stetson University honor societies only. Students will receive these accessories directly from the faculty sponsor of their organization.
Additional groups outside of the official honor societies will need to submit a formal request to the Office of the Provost for approval at email@example.com. Requests should include a description of the honorary society, including membership requirements, and an image of the requested accessory. All requests are due by April 1, 2018, and will be reviewed after that date, with final decisions communicated to the requester. Current policy states that requests will be considered from academic honor societies only and requests from non-academic groups will not be approved. The Provost and Deans will be considering policy changes that may include recognition of non-academic groups, thus non-academic groups may submit requests for review.
Faculty participating in Commencement-related activities are asked to wear academic regalia. Faculty members in need of rental regalia can place an order at the Stetson Bookstore. All orders will be delivered to the Stetson Bookstore for pickup.
