Awards to Fund Summer Research
NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU)
The National Science Foundation (NSF) supports research sites all around the country where you can get training from a group of expert researchers in your area of interest through a Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) award. Each REU site has different due dates, durations, locations, research topics, stipends, and other details. You can read more about REUs and search for an REU.
If you are interested in applying for an REU, you should work with a professor in your major or contact Dr. Michael Eskenazi ([email protected])
Applications Due: Different for each REU, but typically December to February
Stetson Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) Grant
Although all other awards listed on this page are externally funded, you can also apply for an award that is funded by Stetson - the SURE Grant. This award funds $2,000 in summer research in collaboration with a faculty mentor. It also comes with $500 to support travel to a conference to present your research. You can read more about the SURE Grant.
If you are interested in applying for a SURE Grant, you should work with your faculty mentor on your application.
Applications Due: TBD but usually in the second week of March
Florida Academy of Sciences
The Florida Academy of Sciences offers a $2,000 Grant in Aid of Undergraduate Research (GIAUR) for research in STEM fields. This award funds mentored research, so the student applicant must have a faculty advisor working with them. Only one application can be submitted per institution. You can read more about the award here.
If you are interested in applying for a GIAUR, you should contact Dr. Michael Eskenazi ([email protected])
Applications Due: June 15, 2025
