Summer Orientation

Summer Orientation - including a special overnight experience for new students — is a time for you to learn more about life at Stetson and begin to feel comfortable with the transition to college life. During the program, students and their guests will learn more about the academic expectations of college life, along with co-curricular opportunities, and begin to develop relationships with the rest of Hatter Nation. Plus, students can complete their New Hatter Checklist and begin Academic Advising. This is a two-day summer session that new Hatters won't want to miss in preparation for move-in and FOCUS Week! The Summer Orientation dates for Summer 2024 are:

  • June 3-4
  • June 20-21
  • June 24-25
  • July 11-12

Registration for Summer orientation is now open. It is expected that all new first-year Hatters attend one Summer Orientation session. You must be a deposited student to attend.

Alexis Trapp Headshot

"Orientation was the true embodiment of the doors to my future opening. I immediately felt welcomed into the Stetson community throughout the program. I saw the opportunity to grow into who I had always wanted to be, both academically and personally, and belong to something larger than myself."

Alexis Trapp, Class of '23

Summer orientation is held during June and July and will cover important information about your academic experience on campus, information about arrival process for move-in/check-in, and help you feel prepared to start off strong when you arrive in August.  FOCUS begins with move-in/check-in on Saturday, August 19, and runs for the 5 days.  During FOCUS Week, you’ll have the opportunity to get to know your FSEM peers and start your FSEM course, learn more about our campus community, and have plenty of opportunities to get to know other Hatters on campus.  Your FOCUS Orientation Leader will begin reaching out to you in July and will give you all the details you need!  It is expected that all new students participate in both Summer Orientation and FOCUS.

Transfer students do not need to attend summer orientation. Special transfer specific sessions will be held during FOCUS Week in August.

Guests will not be provided rooms in our residence halls and will need to secure their own accommodations off campus. There are many hotels and other types accommodations in DeLand and the surrounding area. Stetson University has curated a list of hotels in the surrounding area to help you find the best option for you.
