Biography

Jelena Petrovic, is an assistant professor of communication and media studies. Her research centers on news media discourses and their relevance for the representation of migration and national identities across diverse and international contexts. She is also one of the co-founders of Community Education Project, a higher education in prison program in Tomoka Correctional Institution, in Central Florida. Her teaching experience includes courses in critical intercultural communication, media theory and analysis, media constructions of national identity and crime, protest and activism and communication and technology. She possesses global media expertise through her research as well as journalism experience through working for newspapers in both Serbia and the United States.
