Payel Ganguly
Brown Visiting Teacher Scholar in Sustainable Food Systems
Ganguly, PhD, is a trained developmental biologist and geneticist. She has worked with Drosophila as a model organism for more than a decade. As she now designs intentional education technologies and curricula, she recognizes how Drosophila can also serve as a powerful teaching tool. In making this pivot, she has realized that some core concepts, whether in biology or in education, remain universal, and that insight has shaped the way she thinks about both science and teaching.
- PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology, The University of British Columbia
- Postdoctoral Fellowship, Cell Biology, Harvard Medical School

My research interests sit at the intersection of biology and science education. I am particularly focused on designing programs that give students ownership and agency over their learning. I am also focused on creating platforms that will help students understand that science doesn't exist in a vacuum: it is deeply intertwined with society, and I want to train them to approach biology with that lens front and center.
