Biography

Kayla Davis is a Research and Learning Librarian and Assistant Professor at Stetson University. Her work focuses on information literacy instruction, research assistance, and outreach that connects students and faculty to library resources in meaningful and inclusive ways. 

She brings a diverse professional background spanning higher education, public libraries, K-12 instruction, and cultural heritage institutions. Kayla previously served at Valencia College and the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture, where she advanced accessibility initiatives, instructional design projects, and digital preservation work. A former ALA Spectrum Scholar and recipient of the USF School of Information Outstanding Student Award, she is dedicated to equity, access, and representation in librarianship. Her research explores the history of library services to African Americans and the role of libraries in community empowerment.

She aims to cultivate learning experiences that are student-centered, inclusive, and promote self-guided, self-disciplined thinking. In both teaching and research, she strives to bridge traditional library practice with innovative technologies that enhance engagement and accessibility. Her professional path has reinforced her belief in information centers as places of discovery and platforms for social impact. She seeks to foster discussions about the evolving role of libraries in promoting critical thinking, digital literacy, and community well-being.
