Video Game Development
Join the Video Game Development Competition, a Hatter Ready initiative led by Professor Dengke Chen, where advanced animation and game development students host a weeklong competition open to all Stetson students. Participants compete individually or in teams of four to create original games, which are judged by a panel of senior Digital Arts and Computer Science students, with prizes awarded to top entries.

"Through my coursework, I have built both technical and creative skills, including programming, 3D modeling, and 2D animation. Beyond classes, Stetson provided valuable opportunities that supported my growth. Like the Lavelle Grant, which helped fund my projects, the FIEA Summer Research program, and in-game design competitions with industry partners such as Electronic Arts (EA). These experiences helped me build a strong portfolio and better understand the game industry."

HATTER GAMES
Software Engineering Immersion: Building a Game for Steam
In this immersive, industry-aligned Hatter Ready experience with Professor AJ Scarlato, students work as software engineers within the collaborative Hatter Games studio, using professional tools and practices like Git, Scrum, and sprint planning. Teams focus on front-end and back-end development while participating in live code reviews with EA Sports engineers, gaining expert feedback on design, architecture, and user experience. Designed for upper-level Computer Science majors, this course simulates real-world game development workflows and team dynamics.

“Hatter Games and Hatter Ready empower students to learn by building. Giving real-world experience in game development and preparing them to step directly into industry roles.”
