Caribbean Wetlands Initiative
During Feb. 3-7, 2010, Stetson's ICLP, via Co-Director and Professor Darryl C. Wilson, participated in the inaugural Caribbean Wetlands Regional Initiative in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Representatives were present from Antigua and Barbuda, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Surinam, Trinidad and Tobago, and the overseas territories of the Netherlands.
The meeting resulted in the development of financial plans and work guides for the 2010-2012 triennium, and the establishment of the Santo Domingo Declaration, which highlights the value of Caribbean wetlands, urges international cooperation for their sustainment, and requests governmental support to further implement the Initiative. The meeting was coordinated by Maria Rivera, senior advisor for the Americas, Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. Each of the Caribbean nations presented reports on actions taken to achieve the Initiative's goals in their respective countries. Copies of their presentations can be found below.
