How Does SSA Help and Hinder My Practice

This presentation will discuss the ins and outs of adding SSA Disability services to a thriving Elder Law Practice.  The presentation will consider the pro and cons of this area of practice and how to set up the structure to have a prosperous SSA Disability practice.

Basic SSI Eligibility Requirements of Section 1917(d)(4)(A) and (C) Trusts

The SSI trust review business process requires evaluation of trusts that need a resource determination (such as new trusts or amended trust) in all initial claim and post eligibility events.  Regional Trust Leads and Trust Reviewers evaluate trusts to determine if they meet the SSI eligibility requirements of (d)(4)(A) and (C).  This session provides background information, describes the basic eligibility requirements, and provides applicable examples.

Appealing Disability Denials - From Initial Applications to Federal Court

This session will review the rules and procedures of appealing unfavorable determinations and decisions of the agency at all stages of the administrative process (initial, reconsideration, hearing office and Appeals Council) and federal court review.   Topics will include a discussion of appealing both disability and non-medical determinations involving cessations, overpayments, and res judicata.

A Guided Tour Through the POMS

When reading the SSA POMS, did you ever feel like you were watching a foreign film and were not quite comfortable with the subtitles? Something lost in translation? This session will provide a curated tour through the POMS from their legal foundation, organization and acceptance by the courts, to tips for navigation and updates to nuggets of policy
