Master of Jurisprudence Application Checklist

  • Personal Statement of fewer than 1,200 words answering the question: “What are your professional goals and how would the M.J. program enhance your career?”
  • Complete official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and graduate or professional schools attended
  • GRE, GMAT, or a request to waive due to adequate experience
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Resume or C.V.

Additional Documents for Foreign Applicants:

  • TOEFL score (≥88 internet-based) –OR- IELTS score (≥6.5), if applicable
  • Complete the Financial Declaration Form (PDF) (for those needing visas)

Admission Requirements

All applicants must demonstrate strong academic achievement and must be proficient in the English language. Students whose first language is not English, or did not earn a degree in an institution/country where English is the primary language of instruction will be required to submit a TOEFL or IELTS score. The TOEFL score requirement will be set at 88 and the IELTS score requirement will be set at 6.5. In exceptional circumstances, a student may be interviewed by the Assistant Dean of International and Graduate Programs and a member of the Admissions Committee, if the language score is less than the standard. Decisions on admission for these students will be made on a case-by-case basis.

International and domestic applicants will be required to submit a GRE taken within the last 5 years as a part of the application package. The GRE may be waived for working professionals in certain cases.

Note: Admission to the M.J. program does not guarantee admission to the J.D. program. Students who apply to the J.D. program after completing the M.J. may not transfer any M.J. courses or credits from that program to the M.J.
