Mock Trial
The Stetson Mock Trial Team provides an opportunity for Stetson's keenest students to acquire and sharpen their critical thinking skills, as well as gain trial experience. This will be valuable during law school and in the future as a practicing attorney. The students on our team have demonstrated the intelligence, dedication, drive, courage, and ambition to compete against talented students from schools across the country.
The Mock Trial Team has been rapidly advancing in recent years. During the 2024-2025 season, the team won over 20 individual awards, 1st place at both UF and FIU, 2nd place at Davidson College, and 19 honorable mentions! However, the team’s success didn’t stop there. Their success in the regular season led them to an undefeated record of 8-0 at the regional competition in Tallahassee. The team advanced to the Opening Round Championship Series, where they placed – earning the program its first-ever Nationals bid in Stetson’s 150-year history! In just 4 years, our program went from being unranked to being ranked 65th in the country! And that number is only going to keep growing!
The Stetson Undergraduate Mock Trial Team is a group of about 20 undergraduate students and two coaches. We have 2 teams that compete under the American Mock Trial Association (AMTA), going head-to-head against other universities from all across the United States.
We were established in 2013 by a small group of students and have been growing ever since. When starting this team, only one member had any previous experience with the mock trial team and has helped all of us through his knowledge and the help of our coaches to be the growing success that we are today.
Although most members plan to attend law school after graduation, members learn skills applicable to every person, no matter their career ambitions. Members ultimately develop critical thinking, public speaking skills, and the ability to form rational oral arguments on demand. Involvement on the team also entails learning legal procedure and courtroom etiquette.
