Old Ruins found in Latin America

Latin American and Latino Studies Program

Latin American and Latinx Studies is an interdisciplinary field examining the histories, cultures, politics and lived experiences of Latin America, the Caribbean and Latinx communities in the United States. At Stetson, the program brings together perspectives from the humanities and social sciences to explore migration and diaspora, race and ethnicity, culture and identity, power and politics, and the connections among communities across borders.

The program encourages students to examine how histories, institutions and cultural experiences shape communities throughout the Americas and their diasporas. By connecting perspectives across disciplines, students can explore complex regional and transnational issues while developing a deeper understanding of the diverse experiences that shape our interconnected world.

At Stetson, these questions extend beyond the classroom. Study abroad, internships, Mentored Field Experiences, community engagement and programming through La Casa Cultural Latina create opportunities to connect academic inquiry with communities and experiences in Central Florida and beyond. These connections foster cultural exchange, critical reflection and engagement with the diverse communities that shape the region.
