Parents of high-achieving students often contact us with questions and concerns regarding how best to meet the academic needs of their talented children. We welcome these inquiries and will do our best to provide appropriate responses. We also suggest you familiarize yourself with these additional resources.     A must-read report authored by Nick Colangelo, Susan Assouline, and Miraca Gross detailing years' worth of research regarding acceleration.
  • Belin-Blank Center
    The Belin-Blank Center provides information to parents about educational programming needs. Their Family Counseling Program provides services for families of gifted children; the Center also offers workshops and helps parents understand how they can advocate for their gifted children.
  • Council for Exceptional Children
    The Council for Exceptional Children is an international organization committed to improving educational opportunities for exceptional children, including the gifted.
  • Florida Association for the Gifted (FLAG)The mission of FLAG is to support educationally appropriate programs for gifted students through exchanging information, promoting research, supporting constructive changes in all areas of gifted education, and cooperating with local and state organizations in reaching mutual goals and objectives in support of students who are gifted.

    An excellent source for reading materials and resource materials to help understand your gifted child.
  • National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC)
    The NAGC provides legislative updates and other information parents should know.
  • Stories with Holes
    Stories with holes are the "plain brown wrapper" of creative questioning. Read these to your children to promote critical thinking and imagination.
  • Young Mensans
    American Mensa provides support and resources for families with gifted children.

  • Odyssey of the Mind
    Creative thinking and problem-solving are skills used by students from kindergarten to college. Students work on teams to solve problems, and competitions are held locally as well as internationally.

    The magazine for young artists and writers to publish their original work.
  • Young Mensans
    American Mensa provides support and resources for families with gifted children.

    The website includes a basic FAQ list about Mark Twain as well as lesson plans developed by teachers for integrating Twain's work in the classroom. Plans are available for elementary, middle, and high school lessons.

    3,000+ free lesson plans and activities with an emphasis on media literacy.
  • Puzzles by AIMS
    Math puzzles are available to augment classroom learning. This website is highly recommended by teachers.
