Steven Alexander, a native Floridian, graduated with a degree in finance from Stetson in 1985. Continuing his education, he earned a degree in accounting from Florida Southern College and holds a mini-MBA from Rollins College Crummer Graduate School of Business. Early in his career, Steven worked for nine years in the Orange County Comptroller’s Office holding positions of increasing responsibility, including treasurer, and authored the Investment Policy Statute for the state of Florida during that time.

Steven joined PFM Asset Management LLC (PFMAM) in 1996, and in 2003 was named Managing Director/Partner of PFMAM’s Orlando office, overseeing the Asset Management practice in the Southeast of the country. PFMAM provides investment advisory services as well as outsourced CIO multi-asset class investment management services to a variety of organizations including local governments and nonprofits. Over his 26 years there, he has worked on several financial and investment distressed public entities in Florida, California, Texas and Washington DC, including working for the State of Florida’s Emergency Financial Oversight Board for the recovery of the City of Miami. Steven holds designations of Certified Treasury Professional, Certified Government Finance Officer and Certified Public Pension Trustee. He is a Certified Executive Coach and holds executive certificates in leadership, nonprofit management and endowment investing from some of the most respected institutions in the nation.

During his career, Steven has served on the Investment Policy Certification Committee for the Association of Public Treasurers of the United States and has served as a Government Finance Officers Association Standing Advisor for the Treasury and Investment Management Committee. He is a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges. Civic-minded and having a desire to better his community, he has held Florida Governor and County Commissioner appointed board positions, as well as previously serving on the Boards of AdventHealth Cardiovascular Institute Foundation, the Orlando Regional Chamber, the Orlando Economic Partnership, the Orlando Science Center, Orange County Regional History Center, the American Heart Association and Goodwill Industries of Central Florida. Steven is currently a board member of the Central Florida Coalition for the Homeless.

Steven has long been a champion for Stetson University, with involvement in many areas. He and his wife, Lee, were instrumental in the successful completion of Stetson’s $150 million campaign. Their generosity toward Stetson University includes supporting Stetson athletics, establishing the Steven and Lee Alexander Scholarship which has benefited first-year Finance students, and helping to fund the startup of the Stetson Center for Public Opinion Research (CPOR).

Steven has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 2012, previously serving as a member of the School of Business Administration Advisory Board. He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Athletics Committee.
