Encouraging Students to Excel

Stetson University emphasizes individual achievement in research and creative work appropriate to each student's field of study. Students in the College of Arts and Sciences select and complete a senior project under the guidance of a faculty advisor. The Dean's Fund, provided by the College of Arts and Sciences, supports student projects. Another university program, the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE), makes competitive awards to students who wish to pursue individual research or creative projects with a member of the faculty.

Showcasing Stellar Achievements

Outstanding undergraduate scholarship and creativity is regularly presented to the university community. An annual event, Stetson Showcase, features outstanding student work from all of the university's programs; it is a celebration of student achievement at Stetson University and is designed to foster an appreciation for academic excellence. The event is structured like an interdisciplinary professional conference. Students present their research, projects, portfolios and performances.

This year's Stetson Showcase took place on Tuesday, April 15, 2014. Review the 2014 Program for an idea of the type of research presented during Showcase.

Creativity Soars

Another creative outlet, the student literary magazine, Touchstone, allows students the opportunity to showcase their work in a published format.

Each semester, students are involved in presentation of productions at Second Stage, concerts in Lee Chapel, art shows at Duncan Gallery, readings at Poetry at an Uncouth Hour or cultural credit events all across the DeLand campus.

Undergraduate research is fascinating when you're working on innovative approaches to knowledge. The research represented below is exemplary of the work done by undergraduate students at Stetson University, and highlights some of the presentations seen at Stetson Showcase and at senior capstone programs.
