Rinker Global Scholars Program

The David and Leighan Rinker Global Scholars Program at Stetson University promotes international learning and excellence. It honors the legacy of longtime donors and advocates for youth, Drs. David and Leighan Rinker. The centerpiece of the program is an immersive experience where students participate in a study abroad experience with Stetson faculty during the spring semester of their sophomore year.

A Cohort Program

A cohort of students is selected for this competitive program during their first semester at Stetson University. Leading up to the study abroad experience, the cohort meets 1-2 times each semester to prepare for their time abroad. During the spring semester of their sophomore year, the students will take a four-credit interdisciplinary course that relates to the country where they will travel.  The topic and location of the course changes each year depending on the faculty leading the program.  During their spring break, the students travel for an immersive 9 day study abroad experience.

A Scholarship Program

All students who are selected for this program are guaranteed a scholarship from Drs. David and Leighan Rinker, which will significantly subsidize the program cost.  Students only pay a total of $1000 for the program.  The scholarship and the $1000 payment covers roundtrip airfare, accommodation, two meals per day while abroad, international travel accident insurance, program excursions, on-site transportation, and local guides and guest lecturers.

A Leadership Program

Once selected for this program, students become part of the cadre of Rinker Global Scholars. Upon finishing their experience abroad, students will become mentors to the rising generation of Rinker Global Scholars.
