Why I Chose Stetson:
I chose Stetson because I wanted to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone. I knew that, due to being a small school, I would have a lot of unique opportunities that would help me build my network and professionally develop myself. However, to truly experience these opportunities, I would need to get out of my comfort zone and introduce myself to the community. So, having a close-knit community that welcomed me with open arms eased my worries and helped me grow as a person.
Involvements on Campus:
Asian Pacific American Coalition (APAC) - Director of Finance, Brazilian Student Association (BRASA), Peer Success Coach, Student Ambassador, WORLD Student Ambassador
What I Like to Do on Weekends:
I always make sure to catch up with my family during the weekends. As an international student, I can't see my family very often, so I like FaceTiming them to share news, know what they are up to, and ensure I don't lose contact with them. I also enjoy leisurely walks and watching anime to relax and recharge from a fast-paced week.
My Favorite Class at Stetson:
My favorite class at Stetson is Mandarin. Learning a new language offers a competitive advantage in the job market, introduces different cultures, and enables you to bond with people from all around the globe. Hence, I always found it fun to learn new languages and aim to become fluent in at least five. Like any other class at Stetson, having a small number of students ensures the professor pays attention to everyone - which is especially important in a language learning class. Moreover, this course is very discussion-based, allowing us to put into practice what we learn.
Advice to Prospective Students:
Take the time to explore different things and learn more about yourself. The college application process can be overwhelming, but it is also a great time to reflect on your interests, values, and who you want to be in the future, both personally and professionally. Thus, take this time to reflect on yourself, as it will also make your application process smoother.
Favorite Place on Campus:
My favorite place on campus is the coffee shop inside the Carlton Union Building. I enjoy watching people go through their days and see how everyone has their uniqueness, and there isn't a better place to witness this than the coffee shop. Also, it's a great place to study when you need a change of pace.
