Alumni Awards
Stetson University is proud to recognize individuals who personify the university's mission of providing excellent education in a creative community where learning and values meet. These individuals represent qualities of mind and heart that we hope to develop in our students while they reach their full potential as informed citizens of local communities and the world. The university awards are presented annually during the Homecoming celebration to outstanding alumni and other supporters of the university.
Alumni Award Winners 2025

Milton Douglass '82, MBA '83
Distinguished Alumni Award
Milt graduated from Stetson in 1982 with a BBA after having originally entered Stetson as a music major. He completed his MBA in 1983. He was a member and officer of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity.
Milt began his career in the technology field of semiconductors after graduation, joining Harris Semiconductor in Melbourne FL. After working in various marketing, engineering and sales capacities for Intel Corporation, ST Micro, and Harris, Mr. Douglass joined Cavium Inc., a fabless provider of microprocessors, serving as Executive VP of Worldwide Sales, in what would be his final position in high tech. Milt retired from Cavium in 2018 after it was acquired by Marvell Technologies and has provided executive consulting services to several Silicon Valley based startups post-2018 while serving on several private company boards.
Upon his retirement from Cavium, Milt returned to Florida where he lives with his wife Lisa Douglass, whom he met at Intel in 2002. After retirement in 2018, Milt became an active startup investor and now is the Managing Director of Douglass Holdings with investments spanning both Silicon Valley and Florida based startups. Milt joined the Stetson School of Business Board of Advisors in 2016. In 2020, striving to help the Stetson School of Business Administration further accelerate its differentiation, he co-founded the Hatter Angel Network and Hatter Angel Investment Program (HAIP) with alumnus Dan Glunt '93 and faculty member Dr William Andrews. In support of this experiential learning program, he also became an adjunct professor at Stetson. At this writing, the program is in its 10th cohort and has been attended by approximately 200 Stetson students, while generating investments of over $1.5M from Hatter Angels who have pledged to return half of all profits to Stetson in support of this program. Milt was elected to the Stetson Board of Trustees in February 2025. Lisa and Milt have also generously provided gifts to the School of Music, Men's tennis, Football, School of Business, Hulley Tower, and the 1883 Society.
In addition to these pursuits, Milt and Lisa spend considerable time, talent, and treasure with non-profit organizations benefiting animal and veteran welfare. Lisa and Milt split time in California at their farm in Napa where they spend time managing their vineyard and other vintner pursuits. Milt and Lisa enjoy golf, physical fitness, skiing, and travel as well as sailing, scuba diving and history. They relish spending time with their children Ally, Alec and Nick in San Francisco, New York City and Phoenix respectively, their pets Luke and Leo, as well as their broader family throughout the United States.

Patrick Zalupski '03
Distinguished Alumni Award
Mr. Zalupski, age 44, is the Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Dream Finders Homes and has served as Chairman of the Board of Directors since January 2021 upon
completion of an IPO (current NYSE: “DFH”). He has served as the CEO of the primary operating subsidiary, Dream Finders Homes LLC, since forming the company in December 2008, and as the Chief Executive Officer and a member of the board of managers of DFH LLC since its formation
in 2014. Patrick is heavily involved and responsible for DFH's overall operations and
management and remains involved in the origination, underwriting and structuring of all investment activities.
Under Mr. Zalupski's leadership, DFH has grown from closing 27 homes in Jacksonville, Florida during its inaugural year in 2009 to establishing operations in 23 markets across 10 states and closing over 42,200 homes since inception through June 2025. Prior to founding DFH LLC, Mr. Zalupski was a Financial Auditor for FedEx Corporation's Internal Audit Department in
Memphis, Tennessee and worked in the real estate sales and construction industry as Managing Partner of Bay Street Condominiums, LLC from 2006 to 2008. Mr. Zalupski has served on the investment committee of DF Capital Management, LLC (“DF Capital”), an investment manager focused on investments in land banks and land development joint ventures to deliver finished lots to DFH and other homebuilders for the construction of new homes, since April 2018. Dream Finders Homes was named the 2025 National Home Builder of the Year by Zonda, recognizing the company's exceptional growth, innovation, and commitment to delivering high-quality homes across the country.
Mr. Zalupski was appointed to the University of Florida Board of Trustees in 2023, where he continues to serve as a member of the board and Compensation Committee.

Eryn McCoy Wagnon '15
Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Eryn Wagnon's career has been dedicated to supporting military families. She currently serves in the Department of Defense as the Chief of Staff for the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Military Community and Family Policy. In this capacity, she supports the daily operations of a broad portfolio of programs and policies that enhance the quality of life for service members and their families worldwide.
Eryn began her federal service in 2021, serving in roles on the Joint Staff and the Department of the Air Force where she advised senior defense leadership on military family policy and supported the larger human capital portfolio. From 2023 to 2024, Ms. Wagnon completed a special assignment at the White House serving as Senior Advisor for Joining Forces in the Office of the First Lady. There, she led interagency efforts to advance federal support for military and veteran families, caregivers, and survivors, and provided direct support to the President and First Lady’s travel and strategic engagements.
Before entering civil service, she was Director of Government Relations for Military Family Policy and Spouse Programs at the Military Officers Association of America, and previously taught sociology at the University of South Carolina–Aiken and Georgia Southern University.
Eryn graduated from Stetson University in 2015 with degrees in sociology and Spanish. During her time at Stetson, she was a FOCUS leader, member of Delta Delta Delta, and a leader on the Panhellenic Council. She also met her husband, Ethan (Class of 2013), at Stetson. They've been married for ten years and have a one and a half year old son, Morgan. Eryn is a lifelong learner holding a master’s degree in sociology from Georgia Southern University, a certificate in legislative studies from Georgetown University, and most recently, completing Air War College- Distance Learning.

Susan Brockway '79
George and Mary Hood Award
Susan Perry Brockway worked professionally with PwC Coopers & Lybrand in West Palm Beach as a CPA in the audit area and as the financial controller for a Real Estate/Golf Course Developer in Boca Raton. She married Peter Brockway, a fellow Stetson graduate BBA '78, and they live in Boca Raton where Peter enjoyed a 35-year career in private equity. They are the parents of adult daughters Vanessa and Emily and the proud grandparents to 5 grandchildren.
Brockway was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2017.
As a community volunteer, Brockway serves on the Board of Directors of the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, the Leadership Advisory Council for the Place of Hope Rinker Campus, and the Advisory Council for Impact 100 Palm Beach County. She is a founding member of the Pi Beta Phi Alumnae Club of Boca Raton, a member of P.E.O., a Place of Hope Angel Mom and has supported educational endeavors throughout her adult life. Her volunteer activities have included serving as a Director of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Saint Andrew's School Board of Trustees serving as board chair, Wake Forest University as a member of the College Board of Visitors, The University of Virginia Parents' Fund Committee member and a director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Palm Beach County.

Jill Jinks, '79
George and Mary Hood Award
Jill is a Research Fellow in the Generative Learning and Complexity Lab in the College of Education at the University of Georgia. Jill's research focuses on informal and incidental learning as theorized by Drs. Karen Watkins and Victoria Marsick. The University of Georgia has recently received a patent for the methodology developed in Jinks' Dissertation to measure adult learning using fractals. This method allows human learning to be extracted and assessed to determine the complexity of the learning context and the need for intervention to support the learning effort. The ability to directly extract human adult learning and measure it is important in the further development of generative AI applications.
Jill graduated from the Stetson University Business School in 1979. She received her MBA from New York University in 1986. She received an MS from Georgia State University in Computer Information Systems. After stepping aside from her role as CEO of a family insurance and technology business, she continued her formal education. In 2018, she received a MEd from University of Georgia in Instructional Design. She was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in 2022 from UGA's Mary Frances Early College of Education. Yes, you can teach an old DAWG new Tricks!
Jill also spends time working with Atlanta Boxer Rescue and has recently supported the establishment of Stetson Sailing Club to invite and inspire others to explore sailing in its various forms. Jill is a lifelong sailor and holds a USCG Merchant Mariner credential as a 100-ton master.

Karen S. Roberts '80
George and Mary Hood Award
2025 marks Karen's 40th year as an HR professional with experience in the private, public and not for profit sectors. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Finance from Stetson University, an MBA from Florida Atlantic University and holds a certificate in HR Management from Capella University. She received her SPHR from HRCI in 2000 and has been a SHRM SCP (Senior Certified Professional) since 2005.
Karen started her career in the Aerospace Industry where she worked in various HR capacities for 15 years, attaining the position of Manager, Workforce Diversity. In 2002 she found her calling - working in the not-for-profit sector - where she has remained. Currently she is the HR Manager/Volunteer Coordinator at Els for Autism Foundation based in Jupiter Florida.
Karen has been a member of her local HR Association since the late 90s where she served as President in 2004-2005 and was honored with a lifetime achievement award from that organization in 2016. PBC SHRM also honored her with their HR Professional of the Year Award twice (1998 and 2011) as well as the HR Volunteer of The Year Award in 2018, HR Mentor of the Year Award in 2021, and Diversity & Inclusion Champion in 2024.
In addition to Human Resources, her other passion is Stetson and supporting students as a mentor and the Institution as an Ambassador. She has participated in Hatter Chats, endowed the Karen Schmitt Roberts Internship Impact Fund, and has served as Co-Chair of the Alumni led effort known as Soul of Stetson, that with others, such as fellow award winners Susan Brockway and Jill Jenks, has been instrumental in raising Hulley Tower.
Karen is celebrating her 45th anniversary as a Hatter alum this Homecoming and when she is not working, supporting Stetson, or spending time with her husband Mark, she enjoys volunteering with The Encore Network, her local ZTA alumni chapter, the local Panhellenic Alumni chapter or serving on her villages' Pension Board.

Julie Tingley '03 *Posthumously
Distinguished Service Award
November 28, 1980 — April 6, 2025
President/ Founder of Wee Macree
Born on November 28, 1980, in Vero Beach, Florida, Julie was a proud graduate of Vero Beach High School and Stetson University. She began her professional journey in pharmaceutical sales and later became a dynamic force in the Tampa Bay area as a businesswoman, philanthropist, writer, and nonprofit founder.
Julie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and a guiding light in her community. She helped launch KNOW Women in both Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida—an initiative dedicated to empowering and elevating female entrepreneurs. She was also the visionary behind Wee Macree, a give-back collective designed to support families and children in need. Her entrepreneurial spirit was matched only by her compassion and tireless dedication to making a difference.
Known for her love of health, fitness, and wellness, Julie embraced life with energy and grace. She was a true super mom to her daughters, Ella and Kate, a loyal friend, and a mentor to many. Her generosity was unwavering, and she gave from the heart—always without expectation.
Julie's impact will live on through the countless lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a beacon of strength, kindness, and inspiration.

Blane McCarthy '92, JD '95
Doyle E. Carlton Award
Blane served on the Stetson University Alumni Association Board of Directors for nine years and is proud to support and represent his Alma Mater as a Double Hatter.
Blane is a statewide mediator and Board Certified Civil Trial Lawyer. He was the 2023-2024 President of the 2,000 member Jacksonville Bar Association. During his 2000-2002 Presidency of the Christian Legal Society's Jacksonville chapter, Blane helped launch a legal aid ministry for the residents of the City Rescue Mission, which he continues to lead. He received the Florida Bar President's Pro Bono Service Award in 2015.
Blane is an ordained deacon who frequently teaches adult Bible studies at San Jose Baptist Church. Since 2004, he has also served as the church's Director of Adult Ministries.
Most importantly, Blane is a family man. He and fellow Hatter Jennifer (Meier) (BA 1992) have been married for 31 years and have three sons - Jonah Brendan, Andrew Joseph, and James Stetson.
Alumni Awards
The Distinguished Alumni Award is presented annually to up to two Stetson University alumni who have brought honorable distinction and special recognition to Stetson University.
To be nominated for this award, the Stetson graduate(s) must prove to have made significant contributions of time and/or philanthropy to the university and their community through outstanding success and achievement in their lives and professions.
This award is the highest honor Stetson Alumni bestows on a graduate of the university.
The Outstanding Young Alumni Award is presented annually to an undergraduate or graduate degree holder of Stetson University within the last ten years. The award recognizes honorable contributions to society and to their chosen profession through significant accomplishment or promise in leadership; or civic, cultural or charitable involvement. To be nominated for this award, the nominee must demonstrate long-standing meaningful engagement with the university through mentorship, events, philanthropic support, or service.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented annually to a graduate or friend of the university. This award is in recognition of their personal commitment to the values and goals of Stetson University and dedicated service in the areas of personal growth, intellectual development and global citizenship.
To be nominated for this award, a Stetson graduate or friend of the university must demonstrate continual outstanding volunteer service on a local, state, national or international level – including at Stetson, through clubs or service organizations, or through other community involvement.
The Doyle E. Carlton Award is presented annually to a graduate or friend of Stetson University in recognition of devotion to Christian higher education and in appreciation for his/her extraordinary contribution to the life and development of Stetson University, the City of DeLand and the State of Florida.
The George and Mary Hood Award is given in honor of Dr. George Hood, former dean of students, professor and director of the counseling Center, and his wife, the late Mary Turner Hood, longtime assistant to President and chancellor J. Ollie Edmunds. It is presented annually to a member or friend of the Stetson University community in recognition of his/her passion for, and commitment and contributions to, Stetson University and its core values.
As an initiative of the Forever Green program, the 10 of the last 10 awards are presented annually to ten undergraduate alumni of Stetson University who graduated between 2014 to 2024. These alumni have shown exemplary contributions to their communities, professions, or Stetson University.
To be nominated, a young alumni must demonstrate outstanding commitment to the 4T's: Time, Talent, Treasure, and Ties.
- Time: The individual has invested their time to benefit others, whether through volunteering, mentoring, or other forms of service.
- Talent: They have applied their skills and expertise to make an impact in their communities or at Stetson University.
- Treasure: The nominee has made financial contributions to Stetson University, supporting its mission, programs and strategic initiatives.
- Ties: The individual has maintained strong connections with Stetson University and its values, fostering relationships that contribute to the growth of the Stetson community.
This prestigious program highlights the achievements of young alumni and celebrates their ongoing influence and dedication to Stetson University.
