Biography
Professor Emerson Wright is a nationally recognized scholar and educator whose work bridges legal rhetoric and civil rights, with a particular emphasis on the rights of gender and sexual minorities. He joined the Stetson University College of Law faculty in 2023, following two years in Oregon Law’s prestigious Visiting Assistant Professorship in Legal Research and Writing.
Professor Wright is a respected voice in the legal writing community. In 2024, he was elected to the Board of Directors of the Legal Writing Institute and currently chairs key committees for the Association of Legal Writing Directors. His commitment to mentorship is evident in his leadership of LWI’s New Teacher Bootcamp, where he helps shape the next generation of legal educators each semester.
Known for his student-centered teaching philosophy, Professor Wright received the David Schuman Allyship Award in both his years at Oregon Law. At Stetson, he continues to champion inclusion and advocacy as faculty advisor to the Lambda Law Society.
Before entering academia, Professor Wright practiced complex business litigation at an AmLaw 100 firm and served as a pro se law clerk for the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Georgia.
An avid fisherman, Professor Wright loves exploring the Florida coastlines and waterways, admiring Florida’s diverse wildlife, and spending time with his unruly rescue dogs.
