In 1998, JJ was wrongly accused of murder, and two years later, he was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years to life. JJ spent 23 years behind bars until he was granted executive clemency in 2021. Now, JJ is an advocate for criminal legal reform, a motivational speaker, consultant, and community organizer.
