Christopher Likens

Christopher A. Likens is a Board Certified Elder Law Attorney practicing in Sarasota, Florida.  Mr. Likens focuses his practice on Estate and Long Term Care Planning and planning for families with special needs.  Mr. Likens is a member of the  Florida and Sarasota County Bar Associations, the Academy of Florida Elder Law Attorneys (AFELA) and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA).  He is a past Chair of the Elder Law Section of the Florida Bar and of the Florida Bar Elder Law Certification Committee. Mr. Likens is past co-chair of the Elder Law Bar’s Public Policy Task Force.

Mr. Likens is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Manasota Pro Bono Attorney of the Year Award, the Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Award for the Twelfth Judicial Circuit, The Florida Bar Elder Law Section Member of the Year Award, NAELA’s Outstanding Chapter Member Award, and the Sarasota County Bar C.L. McKaig award for outstanding service to the bar.  He has been recognized as one of Florida’s “Legal Elite” by Florida Trend Magazine and named as a Top Attorney in Florida by Superlawyers.com. In addition to his law practice, Mr. Likens serves as an adjunct professor of law at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Florida, in the JD and Elder Law LLM programs. He is a past president of the Area Agency on Aging for District Eight, and has served on the state board of directors for the Florida Counsel on Aging (FCOA).  Mr. Likens is a frequent guest speaker and lecturer on issues concerning long term care and special needs planning, and has appeared on National Public Radio and CNN concerning health care and end of life planning.   He is a co-author of the book Planning for the Elderly in Florida.  Mr. Likens received his B.A. from the University of South Florida, and his Juris Doctor cum laude from Stetson University College of Law.  Mr. Likens resides in Sarasota with his wife, Christine, and children Calvin, Kayleigh, Kip and Cooper.
