LLM in International Law
Master of Laws | Curriculum Overview
The LLM in International Law at Stetson Law is an intensive one-year course that leads to an advanced legal degree in international law. The LLM in International Law program accommodates the specialization needs of both experienced practicing attorneys and recent law school graduates from the U.S. and abroad. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to enter the global marketplace thoroughly prepared for positions in law, business, government, teaching, or related professions.
Students can choose from two specialized tracks:
- The American Legal Studies track is designed for foreign trained lawyers and focuses on U.S. law and legal methods. This track fulfills the eligibility requirements to sit for the New York State Bar exam.
- The Public/Private International Law track emphasizes subjects of fundamental importance to international lawyers. Diverse elective options allow students to pursue individual career interests. This track allows foreign-trained lawyers to apply to Stetson Law's accelerated 2-year JD program with the possibility of waiving the LSAT requirement.
Stetson's LLM in International Law is a 24-30 credit program held in person at our welcoming campus in Gulfport, Florida. Students can choose between full-time and part-time study depending on what their academic and career goals are.

It goes without saying that in the field of constitutional law, having a degree in international law gives you a great advantage, especially when working in the EU. The flexibility and freedom Stetson offers its students when picking courses ensures that you can focus precisely on what speaks to you. But what I treasure above all else are the people I met at Stetson Law―inspiring professors, classmates, colleagues and friends―they are the ones who make the experience truly valuable and unforgettable!"

Students may enroll full-time or part-time, however, F-1 and J-1 students must enroll full-time. Full-time students complete the requirements for the LLM in one academic year (fall and spring semesters.) Candidates for the LLM degree must satisfactorily complete 24-30 hours of academic credit and will typically take no more than four classes per semester.
Most required courses are scheduled during the normal work day, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Some elective courses are scheduled after 5 p.m. Some courses may be offered at our Tampa Law Center or other off-campus locations, although no commitments can be made in advance for such remote site offerings.
Full-time status: Full-time students must take no less than 12 and no more than 15 credit hours per semester. Full-time students are scheduled to complete the requirements for the LLM degree within one year.
Part-time status: Part-time students may enroll in as few as one course per semester and as many as three courses per semester. Part-time students must complete the same required curriculum prescribed for full-time students, although the sequence and timing of such courses will vary. To the extent possible, part-time students must take required courses before taking elective courses. An individual curriculum plan will be developed for each part-timer upon admission. Part-time students are allowed a full three-year period to complete all requirements of the degree.
