Students work under the direct supervision of intellectual property attorneys and agents at the site location. Students gain experience in researching various types of intellectual property issues and drafting different types of documents related to applications for protection, licensing, assignment, and other matters involving procurement or transfer as well as litigation.

Students may also engage in drafting opinion letters and submitting different types of applications to governmental bodies responsible for IP regulation and administration on regional, national, and international levels. The internship focuses on patent law; however, some exposure to trademark issues is included. There is a strong emphasis on technical and scientific matters in this internship and undergraduate training in those disciplines is preferred. The list of placement locations below and on the list on the online application system are merely a representative sample and may vary each semester.

Program Requirements:
• 120 hours per semester;
• Activity journal (submitted weekly); and
• Research paper.

Eligibility Requirements:
• Successful completion of all first-year required courses;
• Be in good academic standing;
• Successful completion of any Stetson Intellectual Property course; and
• Technical or scientific background (preferred).

• Interview with the overseeing professor and the onsite supervisor.
