Stetson, ASUN Cancel Athletics Events

Update as of March 13: The ASUN Conference Presidents’ Council announced it took action today to officially cancel all intercollegiate competition, regular season and championship segments, for all spring sports. With the health and safety of Stetson student-athletes at the forefront and with input from Stetson conference affiliates (PFL, ASUN, MAAC), Athletics Director Jeff Altier announced all team practices are cancelled for the remainder of the semester, but voluntary athletic-related activity, and strength and conditioning will be permitted.

The ASUN Conference has announced that spring competitions for league schools have been canceled through April 5, effective immediately.

The ASUN announcement followed the statement from the NCAA that all remaining winter and spring championships – including the men’s and women’s basketball championship, College World Series and Women’s College World Series – have been canceled.

Statement from ASUN Commissioner Ted Gumbart:
“In support of the global community’s effort to limit transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and to exercise wise precaution in protecting the health of the entire ASUN family, the ASUN Conference joins the fight by suspending all intercollegiate competition, effective immediately, through at least April 5. Our Presidents’ Council will address the question of canceling all spring competition tomorrow, March 13, and we will update this statement as needed following the conclusion of that 3:00 p.m. ET session.

“We live together in a world that has been monitoring this outbreak since it began, and the pathway to this decision has been building rapidly over the past few days. Our code of conduct dictates that we conduct all ASUN activities honestly, fairly, respectfully and responsibly. In that manner, we share in the disappointment that arrives over the cancellation of competition, but stand strong in the conviction that we reached this decision appropriately. We extend best wishes to all as we deal with the consequences of the COVID-19 outbreak.”

All planned camps and clinics on the Stetson campus have also been canceled through at least the end of the spring semester along with any other external group events.

Fans who purchased single game tickets to scheduled baseball and softball events may call the Stetson ticket office for a refund. The final day to call for a refund is Saturday, May 16, at 5 p.m. Please allow one to three business days for refunds to be processed.

The Stetson ticket office will work with season ticket holders to determine the impact of the canceled events and offer partial refunds. Fans with questions may contact the Stetson ticket office at 386.738.4287 or [email protected].

Please take all safety precautions to protect yourselves and your families from this virus.
