Deborah Goldring, PhD

• Associate Professor of Marketing Deborah Goldring, PhD, was quoted on July 25 for the Digital Context Next article, “What the News Media is Doing to Defend Against Deepfakes.” The ability for video and photo manipulation by artificial intelligence has been rising in recent years. Goldring stated, “According to a Buzzfeed survey, 75% of Americans who were familiar with a fake news headline perceived the story as accurate,” she said. “And because social media makes it so easy, consumers are more likely than ever to share news with their network, which further spreads inaccurate information.”

• Stetson University Associate Professor of Philosophy Susan Peppers-Bates, PhD, was quoted on July 23 in the Philadelphia Tribune article, “Yes, Mermaids Can be Black,” which covers the controversy about the casting for the live action movie Ariel. Peppers-Bates stated, “America should be celebrating cracking the white glass ceiling of beauty imagery, albeit still within a narrative focused on traditional gender roles.”

• Former Stetson baseball coach Pete Dunn was featured on July 22 in The Daytona Beach News Journal article, “Longtime Stetson Skipper Pete Dunn Inducted into Florida Sports Hall of Fame.” Dunn stated, “It’s an awfully nice honor.” After coaching the Hatters for thirty-seven years and ranking sixteenth on the NCAA Division 1 all-time list, Dunn became the third Stetson inductee into the Hall of Fame.

• Alumnus Sam Ryder was mentioned on July 20 on the Golf WRX article, “Chat With a (Soon-to-be) PGA Tour Champion: Sam Ryder,” as an up and coming golfer. Ryder stated, “Stetson was my only Division 1 scholarship offer, and actually the only school I applied to. I knew I wanted to give golf a shot. Playing Division 1 in Florida was going to give me my best opportunity to get better.”

• Stetson alumnus Donald Parham was mentioned on July 19 in Redskins.com article, “2019 Redskins in Richmond: Tight Ends,” as one of the Redskins’ tight ends who signed up in June.

• Alumnus Arthur Drogue was featured on July 22 in Yahoo Finance article, “Former Unilever Executive Art Joins TABS Analytics Board of Directors,” about joining TABS’s board of directors.
