Betty Thorne, Ph.D., professor of statistics, has been appointed the Christian R. Lindback Chair of Business Administration for the 2015-2016 academic year. This chair, the first established at Stetson,  is awarded to a faculty member with national recognition for scholarly contributions and a record of excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching. Thorne co-authored a statistics textbook that has been translated into several languages and is used in universities around the world.

“Dr. Thorne has a distinguished record of contributions at Stetson University and exceeds all the expectations for the chair,” said B. Madhu Rao, associate dean of Undergraduate Programs in Business. “What impressed me most about Dr. Thorne is her outstanding commitment to what she does in her job. She genuinely cares for each and every student she touches in her role as a professor of statistics and director of undergraduate business student success. She has been an asset to the University for the last 35 years and I expect Dr. Thorne to continue her excellent work in supporting Stetson University and its students in the years to come.”

Thorne’s high degree of success includes earning the William Hugh McEniry Award for Excellence in Teaching, Stetson University Advisor of the Year Award, the SoBA Professor of the Year Award, the SoBA Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and the SoBA Service Award. Thorne has also served the School of Business Administration as the associate dean, the Director of Undergraduate Studies and the chair of the Department of Decision and Information Science.
