Cross-examination, persuasion, story-telling on the agenda at University College of Dublin.

Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport, Fla., offered an advocacy training program to a sell-out crowd in Dublin, Ireland, July 17-18. The two-day program for law students, law professors and legal practitioners taught the renowned Stetson method of trial advocacy at the University College of Dublin Sutherland School of Law.

“This new program reinforces Stetson’s commitment to teaching advocacy in a global marketplace,” said Christopher M. Pietruszkiewicz, dean of Stetson University College of Law. “Our trial advocacy program is ranked number one in the U.S. and we are delighted to offer Stetson advocacy training to our legal partners in Ireland for the first time.”

“We were honored to share the Stetson method with our colleagues across the Atlantic. Our program focused on psychology, storytelling, case analysis and fundamental advocacy skills,” said Charles H. Rose III, professor of excellence in trial advocacy.  “Over two days, we built professional relationships and new friendships while sharing the Stetson method for creating persuasive, ethical and superior advocates. We look forward to future programs in Ireland and other locations within the United Kingdom.”

Michael Collins SC provided the keynote address. Collins is an expert in commercial, competition and EU law at the Irish Bar and appears regularly before the Supreme Court of Ireland and European Court of Justice.

Program sessions included the Psychology of Persuasive Storytelling, Increasing the Persuasive Power of Direct Examination, and Conducting Cross-Examination with a Purpose.

Stetson also regularly offers a successful Educating Advocates Teaching Advocacy Skills program annually in the spring to legal practitioners and law professors from across the U.S.
