Walk for Wellness in memory of Mark Hollis

Mark and Lynn HollisDr. Mark Hollis, Stetson University trustee emeritus (pictured left with his wife, Lynn), was recently honored by Stetson integrative health science majors and friends.  Hollis, who passed away last December, endowed the Integrative Health Science program.

IHSC juniors and seniors, along with chair of Health and Wellness, Michele Skelton, walked the Hatter Tracks around campus while chalking inspirational messages of physical well-being.

“The students were challenged to come up with some appropriate, motivational phrases and they did a great job,” said Skelton. “Many of the students chalked words about the role of exercise to enhance mood, increase cognition and academic performance, relieve stress, and other aspects of overall wellness.”

As a member of Stetson’s volunteer leadership, Hollis was passionate about innovation in educational practice, as well as the importance of health and wellness. This led him to endow the university’s integrative health science program.

“We hope that this will encourage students to take a brief but important break from studying to go outside, breathe in the fresh air, take a walk, enjoy our lovely green campus, relieve some stress, and positively impact their wellness,” said Skelton.
