GPS Series starts tonight for students

Stetson’s Campus Life and Student Success division is offering the GPS: Guide for Proactive Success workshops once again this semester to aid students in staying on track with their academic and personal lives at the university.

All the workshops take place at 5:15 p.m. each Tuesday in Sage Hall, room 257. The first one is tonight, Aug. 28, and will be focusing on “How to Succeed in Your FSEM.” The following week is an opportunity to hear Ana Maia and Nate Burke talk about “How and Why You Should Get Involved On Campus.”

Stetson can be challenging for students, especially those who are new to the university. The workshops are a way to provide support in areas like time management, study skills, wellness, health, reading and memory.

Assistant Provost for Student Success Lua Hancock helps facilitate many of the workshops. She has enjoyed watching students come to the GPS sessions and learn how to reach their academic and personal goals.

“We keep the workshops interactive and full of skills that students can instantly apply to increase their likelihood of success,” Hancock said. These workshops are held most every week through the fall semester. Each one focuses on a different aspect of a college student’s life that they might need help with. The workshops include topics such as “How to Succeed in Your FSEM,” and “Stressed?… Work (It) Out!” and offer a fun and entertaining opportunity to increase the likelihood of success. The sessions are led by experienced faculty and staff with high energy and a lot of knowledge on the subject.
