ONE U.P.Ts. DIOCESE SUSPENDS COMMEMORATION OF METROPOLITAN OF KIEV ONUFRY; FOUR OTHERS CONTINUE TO COMMEMORATE PATRIARCH KIRILL
The diocese of Rovenki of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UPTs) remains in unity with the Russian Orthodox Church and has suspended commemoration during divine liturgy of Metropolitan Onufry as the primate of the UPTs. This was stated in a declaration regarding the results of a meeting of deans and clergy of the diocese held on Tuesday, TASS reports.
"The assembly of deans and clergy of the Rovenki diocese adopted the following decision: to suspend commemoration during the divine liturgy of Metropolitan Onufry as primate of the UPTS; the diocese of Rovenki and Sverdlovsk remains under the omophorion of His Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all-Rus. The deans should inform the clergy in church regions of the diocese regarding the adoption of the decision" a report published on the website of the diocese says. The diocese is located on the territory of the LNR (Luhansk People's Republic).
The declaration specifies that the diocesan assembly discussed matters of church life that have arisen as the result of the Council of bishops, clergy, monastics, and laity of the UPTs, which was held in Kiev on 27 May. Its participants adopted additions and changes to the charter concerning the administration of the UPTs that testify to the complete self-government and independence of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
According to information of the Rovenki diocese, its ruling bishop, Archbishop Arkady, participated in the event in Kiev by videoconference and he reported "about the fidelity to the patriarchal Mother Church and he voted against the resolutions of the Council and changes in the charter of the UPTs."
Earlier, decisions to remain under the omophorion of Patriarch of Moscow and all-Rus Kirill were announced also by the Simferopol, Feodosiya, Donets, and Gorlovka dioceses of the UPTs. At the same time, only the Rovenki diocese has announced the suspension of commemoration during the divine liturgy of Metropolitan Onufry. (tr. by PDS, posted 4 June 2022)
