Stetson Homecoming

Yes, Stetson Homecoming, Nov. 1-7, will be virtual, just like last year. Yet, even more than in 2020, the event schedule has been created “with our busy alumni in mind!”

That’s the word from Amy Dedes ’04, director of Alumni and Parent Engagement.

“This year, we have events starting the Monday leading into Homecoming weekend, with events that people can attend during their lunch break at work or in the evenings after their days have quieted down a bit,” Dedes said.

Also, this year is extra special, Dedes added, with Homecoming tied to the inauguration of the university’s president, as Christopher F. Roellke, PhD, receives his official recognition as Stetson’s 10th leader.

In all, the schedule of Homecoming events begins on Monday, Nov. 1, at 6 p.m. with a virtual Greek Alumni Reunion and Update. On Sunday, Nov. 7, Homecoming comes to a close with a virtual Edmunds Scholar Reunion at 11 a.m.

Among many highlights during the week are reunions, alumni awards and university history.

“Decade” virtual reunions are slated for the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s and 2000s (2000-2021). Also, there is a Multicultural Alumni Family Reunion. “Since we were unable to host class reunions both this year and last, we’ve combined the reunions to be ‘decade’ celebrations, so that more people are able to participate and reconnect,” noted Dedes.

A virtual University Update and Alumni Awards Presentation is planned for Thursday, where Dedes promised a “few surprises for those award winners.” In addition to the Homecoming event platform for virtual viewing, the event is being broadcast on the Stetson University Alumni Association’s Facebook page, starting at 6 p.m.

In addition, Stetson University Presidents: A Walk Through History is on the schedule. The presentation, hosted by Sue Ryan, the Betty Drees Johnson Dean of the Library & Learning Technologies, whose session on the John B. Stetson Family Legacy was last year’s highest attended event — “so, of course, [Ryan] is coming back for an encore!” Dedes commented.

And there wouldn’t be highlights without football, right? The Hatters go up against the University of Dayton Flyers at Spec Martin Stadium on Nov. 6, starting at 1 p.m. (Discounted tickets are available by visiting here, clicking “Buy Tickets” next to the Dayton Homecoming game and entering the Special Offer Code SUALUMHC21.)
