Riley Russell, Chloe Temples Named to the ASUN All-Academic Team

Stetson University center fielder Riley Russell (Dallas, Ga.) and pitcher Chloe Temples (Marianna, Fla.) have been named to the ASUN Softball All-Academic team, the league announced Thursday, May 20.  It is the first ASUN All-Academic team selection for either player.

Russell currently maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a graduate student in Stetson’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling Master’s program.  She previously earned a Psychology degree from Stetson in May of 2020, graduating with a 3.53 GPA.

On the field, Russell never missed a game in her career, starting all 108 contests in center field in her three seasons with the Hatters. This past season, she batted .320 with 32 hits and 27 stolen bases. She led the league and ranked eighth in the NCAA in steals-per-game (0.79).  Russell compiled a nine-game hit streak from March 20 to April 10, which included a walk-off single in the Hatters’ win over Kennesaw State.  Defensively, she maintained a .986 fielding pct. with one outfield assist.

For her career, Russell stole 71 bases, good for seventh in school history and was only caught four times for a career stolen base pct. of .947.  In addition, she earned ASUN Honor Roll and NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors.

Chloe Temples

Temples, a Microbiology major, also maintains a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA following her sophomore season.  This season in the circle, she went 4-14 with a 3.32 ERA, striking out 88 batters in 122.1 innings of work. In 18 starts she pitched 15 complete games and struck out five or more batters 12 times.

Temples was terrific over the final four games of the year, posting a 0.40 ERA. She tossed seven shutout innings vs. Lipscomb in the crossover weekend and 10 shutout innings vs. FGCU in the ASUN Divisional Series.

In 2020, Temples went 10-6 with a 1.94 ERA. She led the ASUN and ranked 21st in the NCAA in victories (10), and earned one ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor.  She was also a Stetson’s Dean’s List and ASUN Honor Roll member.

Russell and Temples were just two of 11 players league-wide selected to the All-Academic team. Stetson has now had 12 players selected to the all-academic team in the past 10 seasons.
